PostHeaderIcon Flannel Down Comforters

Flannel down comforters, duvet covers and sheets are still a popular material bedding choice in households everywhere. Here’s a look at how flannel can be used in down comforters to suite any bedroom decor.

As the weather outside gets colder and the nights get longer, nothing gives you warmth and softness like flannel bedding. This traditional fabric offers a wide variety of patterns and colors to suite just about any taste.

Flannel down comforters are not just for people living in the country as some would assume. They have grown in sophistication and are used in homes in the city as well.

Duvet covers and comforters made of flannel look great in a soft pastel or warm color scheme. They also work well in all season, not just cold wintry weather.

Caring for a flannel down comforter is as simple as placing it in the washing machine in most cases. If you have a king down comforter you may need to have it cleaned in a larger commercial wash machine. Be sure to read the tags for care instructions.

Finding the pattern and color of any comforter can be as easy as going online. There you will find websites that offer every type of down comforter available. Most of these retail sites will have online catalogs that will show you exactly what you would be getting.

A Flannel comforter and duvet covers can be a great addition to your bedroom decor. Above all else, they certainly will keep you warm and cozy this winter season.

PostHeaderIcon Labour bag – Have I over packed or missed anything?

I’m 16 years old, 37+4 weeks with my first baby and I’ve looked upon countless lists of what to take but they all say different things – so confusing!

In my bag I am taking:

For baby:
3 Sleep suits
3 Bodysuits/vests
2 pairs of scratchmits
2 Hats
Going home outfit: Booties, T-Shirt & Dungarees
2 Muslin Cloths
Cotton wool balls (75pk)
Travel Wipes
12 Nappies
Cellular Blanket
Teddy comforter/cutchy
Small tube of Bepanthen if it’s needed

For Me:
Maternity pads (10pk)
Breast pads (6) I was advised not to take loads as it takes a few days for your milk to come through and I know for the first three days you only produce colostrum. Is this correct of me? I have more obviously and can get my o/h to bring more in if needed.

A Large towel
Flannel
Toiletries: Toothbrush, Toothpaste, Deodorant, Vitamin E facial wipes, Shampoo ect.
Lots of hair bands/clips
Chap stick/Lipsil
2 Comfortable, stretchy outfits
Maternity Bra
6 Pairs of black cotton underwear which can be disposed of
Breastfeeding cream

Plan on taking two bags one for myself and one for my baby and getting my boyfriend or another family member to bring it in later on. Also getting snacks/drinks closer to the time.

Have I over packed, would anyone suggest anything I’ve missed or anything I won’t actually need.
Sorry for the huge list! I guess I’m paranoid and want everything to go right.

PostHeaderIcon Making a baby quilt/blanket questions.?

My friend is having a baby, and I want to make a blanket for him out of flannel. Is this a good material to use, and I will kind of be making it like a quilt, so I was wondering if I need to put any batting inside, or if it should be thick enough with both sides being flannel. This wont be a crib comforter type of thing, just a blanket to use. Thanks!

PostHeaderIcon All you efficient housekeepers out there!?

How many sets of sheets do you think a household of three adults needs to have on hand? If they have a clothes dryer for quick turnaround? (I have three sets of winter flannel and two of summer percale.)

I ask because I’m consolidating my parents’ household and mine, since they’re losing some of their coping ability. They are both scary pack rats. They probably have three dozen sets of sheets, among other things obviously more than they need. They are not going to want to give any away, but I don’t have storage space for three dozen sets of sheets, two dozen blankets, ten pillows, ten quilts and comforters, and the other many extras they have. There needs to be some room in the house for the people and the cats.

I’ve already vetoed storage space for the four sets of dishes and kazillion extra glasses they have, and for three huge desks that probably weigh more than most people’s cars. I just wonder how many sheets reasonably sane people out there believe they need, as a starting point for the discussion they and I are going to have to have.

PostHeaderIcon I'm freezing, how can I warm up?

I’m so cold. It’s 31 degrees outside and a wind chill of 24 degrees. The heat is on, but the house isn’t warming up. It’s been on for a few hours now and I’m only getting colder. I’m laying under two comforters, 2 blankets, and a flannel sheet. My floor heater is on full blast. What can I do?
I’m 15. No one else in my house is cold, I’m just cold natured. I’m the kind of person who is always cold. I’m 15, I have vasomotor instability, which does mess with my blood pressure, lowering it when I change positions.
I use Fahrenheit, so 31* is freezing. Literally, below the freezing point.

PostHeaderIcon Is this unusual? Does this dream mean anything?

Last night I spent the night at my best friends house. Her husband died yesterday and I didn’t want her to be alone. It was cold, blizzard like weather and I was snuggled in a down comforter sound asleep. I dreamed my dear friend (who I am very attracted to) knocked on the back door (there’s a back door in this room) and I let him in. He was wearing flannel pajamas and a sweatshirt so he asked if he could crawl into bed with me so he could warm up. I told him yes. I admit, I was turned on but when he started kissing me I asked him to stop as we are both married.
The next morning I was upstairs having coffee with my friend and here he comes, knocking on the front door, wearing exactly the same clothes that I dreamed he had on. I could hardly look him in the face.
Please, don’t be rude. I’m already pissed at myself for not having fun in that dream!

PostHeaderIcon Any one care to offer comments for this bit of verse ?

Any suggestions or comments would be greatly appreciated.

Yes, it is a sappy poem,,, I’m often a sappy guy,,, so I go with what I know best most often.

Shades of golden brown, yellow tinged by red, orange flames,
aroma of apples cooking, cinnamon, final meal of the backyard grill.
Heady fragrances wafting of sun warmed earth, frost seeking shadows,
comfortable flannel shirts, long warm sensuous kisses to chase chills.

Breathe deep misty morning mountain air, rosy cheeks, reddening nose,
musical crisp fallen leaves swirling, dancing, rustling beneath feet.
In the fields wet earthy smells abound, clinging tightly to all who pass,
thoughts of long warm snuggles, a frosty moon lit night beckons.

Maple leaves lasting, clinging, still resisting against rattling winds,
bright harvest moon rising, seen through nearly naked trees, eerily.
Over fields of pumpkins, geese chatting, honkin’ a farewell fly by,
cuddling in the after glow of love, gentle caresses, downy comforter.

Rain devoid of pleasure, hints of snow to come, cascading down,
pungent wood smoke climbs from a valley, lingering in cold air.
Flowers harvested before frost adorn a table, warm cider perfume,
hand in hand, exploring each other, love growing ever stronger.

PostHeaderIcon How heavily do you wrap your baby to sleep?

Here’s the situation: my baby likes to be warm. My husband also likes to sleep really, really warm (goose down comforter in June!).

When we brought our baby home, we had pajamas on her and then swaddled her in a jersey knit SwaddleMe. But, we found she was chilly so we swaddled a thin flannel receiving blanket on top. Additionally, she has a little knit hat on.

As she’s grown (she’s 4 weeks now), I notice that her back is a tiny bit moist from sweat when I pick her up. So, I try to put her to sleep with one layer missing (either the flannel blanket or the hat), but she keeps waking up! She doesn’t sleep as well unless she has all those layers.

She’s not sweating except for the light, light moisture on her back, but I’m still worried about her overheating. We live in Northern California and our house isn’t too cold. She sleeps like a CHAMP ( 4-6 hours at a stretch at night) and she is generally healthy and happy.

So, do you cover your baby as much as we do?
